The Twin And Our Weekend

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

I recently showed you one of the urns I purchased at auction.
I filled that one with a collection of seashells and decided
to plant its twin with a birds nest fern, ivy and a couple
other plants.

It has now found a home in the morning room.
..........................

Yesterday Steve and I packed a picnic and headed to one of the state parks
for a little hiking.  The weather was perfect and such a beautiful day to be
outside.

We ended the weekend with a wonderful dinner out to celebrate
our anniversary.

Happy Anniversary Steve.
Marrying you was by far the smartest thing
I ever did.

xoxo,
Sherry

In My Spare time

Hi everyone!

Just a reminder that the Open House Party is on Spring Break for the
next few weeks.  I'll still be posting and visiting you, so please don't
go anywhere.
................................................

I had a little bit of spare time to work on some much delayed
projects.  Nothing earth shattering, but I am still happy to check these
off my to-do list.

After Christmas I found a wreath holder on clearance and thought
it would make a great stand for my chalkboard. I spray painted the
stand and added picture wire to the tray with hot glue. I plan to use
it for hanging small signs and pictures too.

I found this old frame at a thrift store for a few dollars and painted
it white.  Hubby cut a piece of scrap wood to fit inside the frame and I
painted it with chalkboard paint.

Easy Peasy but a great addition to our kitchen.

I am currently working on another project involving two chairs I purchased
off Craigslist.  The upholstery was very stained and the finish was a shiny surface
typical of the furniture included in a condo package.  If you have ever rented a
condo at the beach with 1980's furniture you know what I mean.

Even with all their problems I could see hope for these ugly ducklings.
Here is the before picture and I'll be back soon to show you their
unique transformation.

If you missed my recent post about adding color with pillows
you can read it HERE.

Thanks for visiting!
Have a safe and happy Easter.

Sherry

Adding Color To The Family Room

I have been trying to lighten up our home by painting the walls and replacing the
dark oriental rug with a sea grass one.  I love the neutral rooms shown on some of my
favorite blogs and design magazines, but I have come to realize I must  have some
color in our home.

Here is one thing I came up with...

The orange pillows look red in the pictures but they are actually close to
the same orange in our Deruta lamps.

Yours truly made these pillows.

I am not a seamstress and sewing machines are not my friends.
Yep, it took me a full day to make these four pillows!   Good
thing I am not sewing for a living, huh?

Gotta run...we have another showing on our home early tomorrow.
This means spending the evening cleaning house.
( After Dancing With The Stars of course)

Keep your fingers crossed for a sale.

**Don't forget the Open House party is on Spring Break**
for a few weeks.

Auction Purchase & Open House Spring Break

I hope everyone is doing well and looking forward to
a fun weekend.

The Open House party will be going on Spring break for a
few weeks.   I'll still be posting and visiting you, the party will
just be on a short hiatus.  I need a little breather and the time
to catch up on reading my favorite blogs, returning emails and
finishing some long overdue projects.  I'll be returning soon with
more beautiful homes to share and a fabulous giveaway!
.................

A couple of weeks ago I went to an auction liquidating the
inventory of a very expensive home decor shop.  I was the high bidder
on two beautiful Italian pottery pieces.  They still had the original price
of $395.00 each on them!  You all know I am  rather very frugal and
there was no way I would pay anywhere near that amount.
I filled one of the urns with seashells and a white sea fan from my Etsy
shop.  I know it is hard to tell in the photo but this piece is huge and weighs
a ton.  I can barely lift it even when empty.

The other urn is currently sitting empty awaiting some pretty plants.  We are
headed to the nursery tomorrow so I'll be back soon to show you the other urn.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Hugs,
Sherry

Hi Everyone!
Welcome to the Open House party.

This week we will be touring the beautiful home of Shenita at Embellishments By SLR.
Shenita explains her decorating style as  "gumbo"...it's a little Southern and Traditional, a
pinch of Old World, a dash of Tuscan, a drop of Contemporary and a sprinkle of French".
  I call her style fabulous!

Enjoy the tour...

Shenita,  Thank you for sharing your lovely home this week.

Wisteria Prints On The Cheap!

Happy Spring!

It actually snowed when we went home to Virginia a couple of weeks ago.   With snow on the ground it was hard for me to get into the mood for Spring decorating.  Also, time was limited and any major decorating had to take a back seat to other things.

One of the small changes I made was switching out some prints in the foyer for a pair of botanicals.  You may remember these framed prints from a Wisteria catalog a couple of years ago.  I always liked the prints,  but not the almost $200 each price.

Last Summer Steve and I made a trip to Destin, Florida to see family and enjoy the beach.  I found the botanicals at the local Goodwill and we left the store with both of the framed prints for a whopping $16.00!

I added a botanical to each side of the entrance to the living room.  Now, I am on a search
for two plates with green and red to replace the blue ones there now.

I moved the market basket to the foyer and you can see Steve's office in the background.

I am very happy with my Wisteria prints on the cheap.

What bargains have you found lately?

Hugs,
Sherry

Our Sort-of Entryway and It is Well With My Soul

We don't really have an entry-way in our home. You basically open the front door and are in the living room. When we first moved in though, we tried to use the small wall behind the front door and treated it sort of like an entry-way. It functions fine, but I have some ideas for making it more of a true entry-way space...someday... For now though, we have an old bench that opens up and we can store bags, extra shoes, outdoor chalk for the girls, tennis balls, and all sorts of random things. I'm not a huge fan of how the bench looks but it's practical and until I decide for sure what I want to to here it is fine. On the sign above we always hang a couple of Lillie and Lola's sweaters/jackets that make it easy to grab when we are headed out the door in a hurry and then we keep most of their shoes in the basket next to the bench.

We also wanted to let you know we have a new "It is well..." pillow cover in our shop:

I hope you all are having a wonderful week! I'll be back next with a new chalkboard print and download.

Before & After~The French Project

Before I show you my newest project I want to thank each and everyone
that sent their congrats on my Romantic Homes Magazine Feature
I so appreciate your friendship and your support of my blog.  Without
all of you this feature would not have happened.

Thank you!

Lately I have been working on several projects to lighten-up our
house but I only have one completed to show you today.

Below is a picture of the family room taken prior to painting.

The darker art work wasn't going back up so I ordered
original antique french letters from Vintage Paper Attic's
Etsy shop and then went on the search for frames.  Michaels  had
some very shiny gold frames I liked and I knew they could
be painted with my  DIY Chalk Paint

White craft paint was mixed with calcium carbonate to create the
chalk paint.  The frames were painted, distressed and then glazed.
I didn't want a brown glaze on these so I used a transparent glaze
from Home Depot and added light gray craft paint to it.

I added  two 11x14 frames inside a larger frame.  Normally
I would add something more to the wall but because of the
new wall paint I'll probably leave it as is.

If you have been reading my blog lately you already know I
have been trying to lighten-up our decor to sell our home.  We
recently had our khaki green family room walls painted
a neutral beige to appeal to more buyers.

Yesterday Steve and I went to the sneak peek of the upcoming
Homearama in our neighborhood.  Each home is being professionally
decorated and will be open to the public in late April.

I was totally floored when EACH home we went into had very dark painted
walls in almost every room.  Chocolate brown, dark blue and gold were
popular wall colors.

Can you guess what wall color was in every single home
we visited?

Yep....
Khaki green!!
LOL
