Spring Break: Savannah Day 3

We hit the stores bright and early yesterday morning because it wouldn’t be a trip to Savannah without carting the littles around all.day.long to shop Savannah.

Our first stop was one of my new favorites – Sweet Tea in Sandfly.  I drooled over these petite hand painted canvases on my last trip and, armed with a Living Social deal, made this mine without a moment’s hesitation.

We lunched at the relatively new Cookie Bar at Byrd’s Cookie Company.  It was a pricey little meal, but wonderfully delish.  Our favorite was the honeycrisp apple and english cheddar salad.

We hit up a number of our other regular haunts but it was the Habersham Antique Market that took the cake this trip.  I left with five vintage Nancy Drew books (positively my most adored childhood read), a aqua grain sack (that will be reappearing quite soon as pillows somewhere in my house), and an old refrigerator basket (that will be holding firewood for our outdoor fireplace starting construction next week *squeal*.)  If I told you how little I paid for the loot, you’d be plum green with envy.



After a few hours in and out of stores, we unleashed the littles for some good old fashioned goofing around in Forsyth Park.


I wrapped up my day with a divine evening out with two very special childhood gals.  We sipped wine, noshed on a variety of delectable eats and talked for hours at K’s newest restaurant, a.lure (facebook / website).  Look for much more to come on a.lure as it’s just been added to my very unofficial official Savannah must-do list!!

Spring Break: Savannah Day 2

We were up at the crack of dawn and after breakfast and some scootering, we loaded up the littles for a day of fun in the sun at Tybee!  First things first, we enjoyed our favorite Monday lunch of fish tacos and margaritas in our usual spot on the porch at Tybee Social. 

And then we hit the sand for hours of splashing, digging, seagull feeding and sand castle building on the beach.  Love how the kids made themselves right at home in our chairs.




After quick backyard bath (my favorite variety for the boys) and yummy home cooked meal, we tucked the littles in bed and stayed up late noshing on pan-fulls of incredibly delish soft pretzels prepared by Sister from the Auntie Anne’s at home baking kit.  These things are the real deal, y'all.

I’m pretty sure I dreamed of the darned things last night…

Spring Break: Savannah Day 1

On the first day of spring break in Savannah, we spent our morning at the dock…



…our afternoon picnic-ing at the beach and exhausting ourselves at the pirate playground…


…and our evening shopping before wrapping up the day with fingers and spuds at Spanky’s (don’t go to Spanky’s and NOT get the spuds…trust me!)
The littles were asleep within minutes of their weary heads hitting the pillow!

Savannah Mansions

Ever since I was a little girl in love with Scarlett O’Hara, I’ve daydreamed about living in one of the gorgeous mansions along Savannah’s oak lined Victory Drive.  When we were down there earlier in the month, I noticed that my very very favorite AND Mother’s favorite are both now for sale.  Want to take a little tour with me?

Savannah: DIY Door Decor from Screens

When on our Tuesday shopping spree, Mother and I fell in love with the door decor at Matty’s ($45) and set out yesterday to make our own!


We made three – for both of us and Sister – and are beyond thrilled with how they turned out!!  (Note, this was before we touched up paint over the staples.)



They are made of screening material and should be very durable in the elements.  It was certainly a trial-and-error effort, but here’s the gist of how we did it.

You’ll need:
- Roll of screening material – use the one pictured below – we learned the hard way
- scissors
- latex paint and brushes
- stapler
- ring clip or pipe cleaner for hanging

Here’s how:
1. Use chalk to draw out your pattern.  You will need two pieces for each finished piece.  One should be about an inch larger all the way around – that will be the top piece and allow for it to puff up a little once assembled.




2. Cut out your two pieces and paint front and back of each piece.





3. Add decorative accents to top piece (larger one) once the base color is dry.



4. Lay the two pieces on top of each other.  You will staple together where the edges of both pieces meet – this will allow the top piece to puff up a little.  Staple once at the top, once at the bottom and then once on each side to start.  Then fill in staples in this same manner until it is fully connected.
   
5. Cut two small slits near the top of the back of the bottom screen and insert your ring clip for hanging.



6. Touch up the staples with the base paint color.



7. Admire your handy work!! (This was before we touched up the paint on the staples – we couldn’t wait to see what it would look like!)
