Bringing in Lizzo fabrics in a new Lefèvre Interiors project

Dear readers, first of all I want to thank all of you who have voted on my blog for the nomination of the Knack Weekend Blog Awards. I will let you know if my blog is nominated as one of the best Belgian blogs.

THANK YOU MY FRIENDS !

____

Over to my project now.

As I am preparing the design and luxury decoration of the living room of a Belgian apartment, I would love to introduce you to one of my favorite brands with an exquisite fabric collection, the Spanish company LIZZO.

I have always loved their collection since I was introduced to Lizzo by Patrick Ponseele Raamdecoratie, the company I appeal on to take care for the window treatment of the Lefèvre Interiors projects.

I will show you more of the fabulous Lizzo Fabric Collection at the end of this post.

First I want to tell you some more about this Lefèvre Interiors project I am working on. As the apartment has very high ceilings and having the allure of a Paris’ apartment, I decided to panel the walls of this living room.

Here are some of my inspirational images.

35I will bring in a mirror on the panel above the chimney piece as you can see here. Source here

The room has a wonderful 19th century corniche moulding, So we need to keep away from it.

64 Corniche of the room.

This is a detail of my first sketch. I am still working on it!  I do need to think carefully about the right proportions of the paneling! This is of a big importance, designing a paneled room.

46

When my sketches of the entire room are finished, they have to be drawned into a technical plan in our atelier in order to show them to our client.

53  Situation of the room at this moment!!!

55 A few Lefèvre Interiors oak finishes. We don’t have standard finishes, we always try to make a personal finish for every new project.

Whatever the choice of our client will be, to finish the oak paneling, I do have to make suggestions about the matching fabrics for the window treatment and upholstery.

As you can see on the ‘before’ pictures here above, the room has big windows. I would suggest to hang French bouillonnées, in the way you can see on these 2 pictures here.54French bouillonnée.

And for the window treatment I would love to use fabrics of the LIZZO collection.

What do you think about the combinations I made?  Patterned velvet fabrics for the bouillonnées and plain velvet for a bergère upholstery? Or a patterned velvet cushion in a plain upholstered sofa,…Combinatie 11. Lizzo Selena Collection  2. Lizzo Velvet Libray Natural Collection  3. Lizzo Velvet Library Intense Collection  4. I do prefer to use Belgian linen for the sofas and to upholster the bergères with another fabric of the Lizzo collection.

Regency library part II

Dear readers, a few weeks ago I told you about a Lefèvre Interiors library project, completely executed in the English Regency style. If you missed this post, you can read it HERE .

Remember I mentionned that I really needed to visit our client to take some ‘after’ pictures!

A couple of days after posting about this project, I received an email from our client , sending me…yes indeed…’after’ pictures!!! So I realized that my client was also a reader of my blog!!!! I was very surprised and enchanted at the same time!

Notice the British Regency period (1811-1820) elements: mahogany armchairs, double desk and especially the daybed. All this, together with the collection of antiques on the chimney and the skin of leopard on the daybed.testifies to a great classicism.

5 Beautiful daybed after a design by GEORGE SMITH (1756 – 1826).

Together with Thomas Hope (read more about Thomas Hope in my previous post HERE), GEORGE SMITH was a renown designer of the English Regency period. As being an Egyptologist in his earlier career, he was of course an enthusiast for the new Egyptian style. He published his “Collection of Designs for Household Furniture and Interior Decoration" in 1808, and four years later he published a further volume, “Collection of Ornamental Design After the Manner of the Antique". George Smith was delighted by Egyptian ornaments and found it a novelty he could not resist using to the full. Later he went on to produce a further major volume  which he proudly called “The Cabinet Makers and Upholsterers Guide” .

A Regency styled library

As I told you in my earlier post, I was preparing upcoming meetings with clients these passed days and was browsing into the Lefèvre Interiors realizations file and found these pictures of an earlier library project.

The library is installed in a Brussels mansion and is designed in the British Regency style.

The bookcases are executed in mahogany, that was very popular in the early 19th century Regency style (1811-1820).

This was our initial design sketch.

Lefèvre Interiors design sketch

I remember me discussing about the Regency style with the home owner (the Regency style was his favorite design style) and we talked a lot about Thomas Hope (1769 -1831),  who was not only a Dutch and British merchant banker, author and philosopher but also an art collector.

Hope was eager to advance public awareness of historical painting and design and to influence design in the grand houses of Regency London. He began sketching furniture, room interiors and costumes.

In 1807 Thomas Hope published sketches of his furniture, in a folio volume, titled ‘Household Furniture and Interior Decoration’  , which had considerable influence and brought about a change in the upholstery and interior decoration of houses. Hope's furniture designs were in the pseudo-classical manner generally called "English Empire". It was sometimes extravagant, and often heavy. It was a  mixture of Egyptian and Roman motifs.

Do you recognize the Egyptian and Roman motifs of Thomas Hope’s Regency design style?

I do love the way the wood is stained.
