Darling Easter Desserts

Sister is our go-to gal for darling desserts around these parts.  This Easter she had us swooning over her dolled up Whole Foods lemon cake (which is totes delish.)  She added loads of edible Easter grass (which is down right nasty in spite of its fabulous appearance), a chocolate bunny and a single blue egg to give an average looking cake an extreme makeover.

Last year she dazzled us with this fun and springy Peeps cake.  For this one, she simply added Peeps and yellow gumballs to a Fresh Market white chocolate cake.

Oh, and while that edible grass is on my mind, I had to share these sweet mason jar treats the littles found in their baskets.  (Inspiration found here.)  A chocolate bunny, edible grass and a few robin’s egg malt balls arranged all pretty like in a mason jar.  You’ll be seeing these again in the form of teacher treats next spring.

Can’t wait to see what Sister comes up with next year…

Bunny Bottom Breakfast

Easter morning, the littles dined alfresco on these darling and refreshingly easy “bunny bottom” pancakes, green grapes and yogurt with a handful of sprinkles on top.

Resurrection Eggs

I’ve seen this floating all over Pinterest and thought it was an outstanding way to help intertwine the Easter story into the day’s festivities.  Simply number twelve plastic eggs and fill each with the corresponding piece of the story and item.  I followed this guide.
April 2012 572
April 2012 573
#1: When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the people waved branches because that’s what people used to do when a king walked by. Mark 11:8-9 (a leaf)
#2: Later, Jesus had a special dinner with his friends. A woman came and poured perfume on his head. This showed that she knew that he was the Christ and she knew that he would die soon. Mark 14:3 (a piece of cloth with perfume on it)
#3: The next day, Jesus had another special meal with his friends. We call this The Last Supper.  Jesus said that people who followed Him should have bread and wine or water to help them remember Him. Luke 22:19 (cracker)
#4: Jesus went to a garden to pray. (a flower)
#5: Judas was supposed to be one of Jesus’ special helpers, but instead he helped other men arrest Jesus. He did this because those men paid him money. Mark 14:10-11 (3 pennies)
#6: After Jesus was arrested, the soldiers were really mean to Him and made fun of Him. One thing that they did was to put a purple robe on Him. Only kings wore purple robes. They didn’t realize that He really was a King, they were just teasing Him because people thought He was a king! Mark 15:16-18(piece of purple cloth)
#7: Jesus was crucified. Mark 15:25 (crucifix or paper cross)
#8: When the soldiers put Jesus on the cross, they pounded nails into His hands and feet.  (nail)
#9: Another thing the soldiers did to make fun of Jesus was to put a sign on the cross that said “THE KING OF THE JEWS” Again, they thought they were making fun of Him, they didn’t realize that He really was the King of the Jews! Mark 15:26 (paper sign that says “THE KING OF THE JEWS”)
#10: After Jesus died, His friends put his body in a tomb. Later, some of the women who followed Him came to the tomb to put spices on His body and wrapped Him in white cloth. That was something they did back then when someone died. Mark 16:1 (whole cloves and/or white cloth)
#11: The tomb had a rock that could roll over the opening to seal it. While the women were walking to the tomb, they wondered how they would get the stone out of the way. Mark 16:3-4 (smooth, round rock)
#12: When they got to the tomb, they were amazed to find that the stone had been rolled out of the way – and Jesus’ body was gone! Then an angel came and told them, “He is risen; he is not here” This egg is empty because Jesus’ tomb was empty. Jesus’ tomb was empty because He was resurrected!Mark 16:6

After our hunt, we took turns opening and reading the story to the littles in what was the sweetest part of my afternoon!

The Bunny-tini

Y’all know how I love my cocktails.  This one was so divine last year that it made a reappearance for Easter 2012 and was deserving enough for mention in countless other posts.  Pin this one for next year cause it’s a keeper…
April 2012 563

The Bunny-tini
3 1/2 cups Simply Raspberry Lemonade
3/4 cup coconut rum (Malibu)
5/8 cup amaretto
Simply mix, pour and embellish with a bunny Peep (cut a slit in the bottom of the Peep and the marshmallow inside will help stick it to your glass.)

April 2012 565
And fill up the little’s glasses with straight up raspberry lemonade.  Which is incredibly delish in it’s own right.

Sister did in fact break her foot and is now sporting an air cast on from knee to toes.  It's quite the fashion conundrum, that thing.  Some are blaming the episode on the Bunny-tinis so please consume with caution :-)

Mother, the baby and I are headed to lunch with the PCP and will be making an appearance as Mystery Reader for his class.    Since he has visitors coming, the PCP is pleased as punch to be buying his lunch.  And luckily, sassy little E in his class let him know that only the vegetarian salad is a good choice seeing as it's slime free.  A little nugget I'm glad to know as I embark on the always interesting school cafeteria adventure...

Easter Tablescape

It will probably take me all week to wrap up Easter...so bear with me.  Besides, I'm too exhausted from Spring Break to do much of anything new :-)

The table was set with an ivory and white linen monogrammed runner and coordinating napkins.  The china and candlesticks are Lenox Butler’s Pantry, silver is Gorham Strasburg and crystal is Waterford Lismore Tall.  The cloche pedestals are from Pottery Barn, nests are collected and eggs are from a local shoppe.  Sister dolled up a Whole Foods lemon cake with edible grass, a chocolate bunny and large robin’s egg for the centerpiece.

As for today, I’m packing away Easter, doing a bazillion loads of laundry and probably watching the baby's new Curious George movie on a never ending loop.  Time to get this place back in order and the little people back on a schedule.

Happy Easter

I hope all of you had a wonderful and relaxing day, soaking up the company of loved ones and remembering the true meaning of Easter.

If there’s one sure fire thing about this family, we never ever pass up a photo op.  And Easter is one of my favorites…I mean, how often have y’all seen Honey sporting a tie?!?! April 2012 444 copy

After we exhausted ourselves forever documenting every combination of ourselves in the front lawn, Honey’s Maple Bourbon Ham on the Big Green Egg made for a divine “linner” (or so we call the meal between lunch and dinner.)

With our gullets sufficiently stuffed, Sister and her Mister headed out back for some highly inappropriate activity.
April 2012 509
Okay, I’m totally kidding.  But it does look bad, no?  She thinks she broke her foot hiding eggs and when her Mister tried to carry her to a chair in the shade we were all laughing so hysterically that they collapsed in the yard.
April 2012 507
Meanwhile, some bunny rang the bell…what could it be???
April 2012 513 copy
Well, the Easter bunny, of course!
April 2012 511
I threw together these mason jar treats for the littles at about one a.m…
April 2012 518
And then more hysterics ensued when Mother came up the walk rolling Sister in the wagon…
April 2012 517
After pouring through the contents of our baskets, we were delighted to find out the bunny had been busy hiding eggs around back!
April 2012 522
After collecting up the loot, we had to sort and divide.  Y’all see, I had the ingenious idea to buy each one a mini lego set and stuff the eggs with lego pieces.  Well, each little had different colored eggs and it became a slight logistical nightmare to get everyone to hand them over to then divide them back up.  However, they were super excited to put their pieces together!  There were also twelve Resurrection Eggs in the mix so we took turns opening them and telling parts of the Easter story.

After cleaning up the first round of dishes, it was time for dessert on the deck and a friendly family game of kick ball.  We brought out the basket of Peep Pops, brought back last year’s Bunny-tinis and Sister outdid herself with the darling cake.

The house is clean and quiet and I’m off to bed.  I can hardly believe it’s back to school at the crack of dawn!

Happy Easter, y’all!

PS. We don’t yet know the status of Sister’s foot as she refused the ER and no urgent cares were open today.  She’ll be getting it checked out first thing in the morning.

Happy Easter

Happy Easter Everyone! I showed you our dining room and living room decorated for Easter earlier in the week and here is our family room. We didn't do much but I figured I would show you anyway:

The hot chocolate bar finally got put away although we did keep the chocolate chips out for Lillie and I to "sneak".

Unfortunately the coffee table only looks like this about half the day. Lillie and Lola's new favorite game is to taken everything off the table and first have a "party" (not sure what exactly makes doing this a party but they've been playing it every day for weeks now) and then after they have their "party" the last couple of days they have started racing some of their cars on the coffee table.

Last Easter we brought our little munchkin home from the hospital!

I hope you have a blessed Easter!
